High School Curriculum

The curriculum for high school classes teaches advanced techniques in familiar mediums and introduces students to professional grade art materials. The projects and topics studied will depend on their previous art experience, however, all students enrolled in high school classes will have an opportunity to explore new, exciting mediums such as printmaking, canvas painting, charcoal, and quill with ink.

Note: A prospective high school aged student will be placed in a course level based on age and ability, despite their official grade level. For example, a 14-year old could be placed with a 17-year old if they both possess advanced creative skills.

The goal of this placement is for students to be successful in their respective program. By being placed with students of similar knowledge and ability, students will work on projects that help them feel challenged and not frustrated.

Classes and Project Examples

During the classes, students will learn to use personal experiences, observations, preferences, and point of views to express themselves. For some projects, students will also get to choose their medium as part of their creative expression. As they advance their skills, students will also build up their confidence to discuss their ideas and artwork using advanced art vocabulary.

With this approach, high school students become more experimental with the mediums, and consider mistakes as opportunities for learning and progress.

Getting Started

We accept applications for prospective high school students year-round. Placement will depend on class size and availability. To get started, schedule a private studio tour or complete an application.
